My love of music started at an early age and I even convinced my dad to take me to see Sweet in concert as a 1974 birthday present. As my tastes developed so did my appreciation for bands who were recognised for rock music and all through secondary school I remember having the names of many bands written all over books and bags. For the best part of 35 years now my main musical preference has been rock, though I will always have a special place in my heart for Abba (and not just because I had a thing for Agnetha). During those years I've probably been to around 400 gigs and my CD collection (I refuse to give in to the digital age by downloading material) takes up a large part of the house. My tastes cover a wide variety of genres and I can switch between AOR and melodic rock through modern rock and pop and onto death metal without any problems. Progressive rock is probably the music I connect with least but I am always prepared to give it a chance. Writing for Fireworks gives me the opportunity to listen to music I would not normally go out of my way to hear and also gives me the chance to put forward my opinions, whether they are found to be agreeable or not. I know I have to list my top 5 favourite bands but I always find requests like that to be difficult. I could list the bands from whom I have the most CDs by but that just means they have been in existence the longest. I could list the bands I like the most right now but in 10 years time would they be included in my top 5 of all time? Anyway, my top 5 of all time could possibly be the following but not in any particular order ... |
