This massive six DVD release with about nine hours of material seeks to put the history of the band into perspective.

The names of vocalist Sabine Edelsbacher and guitarist/keyboardist Lanvall should be well-known to readers of Fireworks as the creative strength behind the Austrian band Edenbridge. Formed in 1998, they have been the constant force behind the wonderfully enthralling Symphonic Metal fare released by the band across eight studio albums, two live releases and one compilation (this being issued in 2007). This massive six DVD release with about nine hours of material now seeks to put the history of the band into perspective, going right back to the beginning including to their pre-Edenbridge band Cascade but also bringing the story right up to the present.

Three multi-cam live concerts are included (from 2004, 2007 and 2014) in addition to interviews (including input from the third original band founder Kurt Bednarsky and former second guitarist Andy Eibler), videos, making of videos and documentaries – all of this in chronological sequence across the discs. The surround sound is good, and the items (including old concert footages, archive material) that have been transferred from non-digital sources has been painstakingly accomplished by Lanvall to a pleasingly high standard.

Space consideration precludes a disc by disc review but if you seek full details of the contents before making a purchase, I recommend going and having a look at the Discogs website (www.discogs.com). Before finishing my comments, I should, I suppose, mention the one disappointing aspect of the package which is a four panel fold out digi-pack. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that of course, as Therion's marvellous 'Celebrators Of Becoming' six DVD release from a few years ago was similar. However, that one kept everything nicely packaged inside a slipcase and I do feel that Edenbridge have missed a trick in not doing similarly with their release.

However, if you are a fan of the band (as I certainly am) then wishing to own this is really a no brainer and it is the wealth of fantastic material on the six DVDs that will draw you in to needing this without question! It is, after all, quite wonderful!
