Longreef is an exceptional band that deserves your attention.

Every so often you get something to review that takes you completely by surprise, almost knocking you over with its sheer class; Longreef's 'Battle Plan' is one such album.

Hailing from Sydney Australia, Longreef don't conform to the stereotypes of Aussie Rock, preferring instead to dabble in the more Modern/Alternative end of the Melodic Rock spectrum. They've already released two EP's and toured with the likes of Fuel, Sick Puppies and Hoobastank so it perhaps shouldn't be a surprise that their star is on the rise.

There's two reasons why this album should be on your "to buy" list. Firstly the quality of the songs on offer, be it the chant along Melodic Rock of the title track, the heart melting acoustic gentleness of 'Sweet Emotion' (which is brilliantly sung by Josh Barker) or the brilliance of 'Want Me Back'. It's all of such a high quality that you'll have a new favourite each time you play it and believe me, you will want to play it repeatedly.

The second reason for falling in love with this compelling album is Barker's spellbinding vocal performance; singing with great soul and feeling throughout the twelve songs. Of particular note are opener 'The Fuse' which is about as close as it gets to the likes of Airbourne and AC/DC, the Alternative Rock/chant along classic hybrid title track or the groove-orientated 'Walk On'. The album has single material too in the shape of the aforementioned '...Back' or the Nickelback lyricism of 'She Likes The Ladies'.

Being from Australia this probably won't get the exposure it deserves. But my advice for a band with an album of such high quality as this would be to make like the SP and up sticks, move to America and take things up to another level.

Longreef is an exceptional band that deserves your attention.
