A strong addition to what is quickly becoming an impressive back catalogue of well performed Classic Rock.
I've reviewed the last two releases from this Classic Rock band from Germany, and I seem to remember mentioning they had a great "retro" sound and a lot of energy. Even if I dreamt writing that review, this clearly is the case as their new live album proves.
'Swinging On The Run' is the sound of a band that are tight, talented and confident. The recording is excellent with each instrument easily detectable, the vocals clear while the mix retains that live vibe that is so difficult to replicate in a studio.
'Free' has more of that timeless Classic Rock riffing with a driving back beat, while 'Holding On' grinds its way into your head. The eerie 'Cortez The Killer' gives the band license to roam as they weave their way through a jammed ending before the assault of 'A Bit Of A Devil'.
There are a few other extended cuts, particularly 'Rock Bottom Blues' and the fifteen minute finale of 'Coming Home', seeing the seventy-five minute show cover ten songs in total. It passes quickly though, with very little of the material outstaying its welcome.
If you haven't encountered Zodiac before, I'd suggest one of their studio albums first. If you own one or more of those, this is a strong addition to what is quickly becoming an impressive back catalogue of well performed Classic Rock.
