If ever a new album could reference the glorious heyday of 1980s Melodic Metal then this surely is it.

If ever a new album could reference the glorious heyday of 1980s Melodic Metal then this surely is it. Sweden’s Dalton have burst back onto the scene with an album so deliciously tasty, so defiantly uplifting that if you weren’t wearing spandex and having your hair teased into a frizzy mane by oodles of hairspray, then you weren’t partying properly during the most teenage liberating, awe-inspiring decadent decade in living memory!

After signing to EMI Sweden, giving us ‘The Race Is On’ and ‘Injection’ in the late 1980s and touring continuously in Sweden where they were considered on a par with Europe and drummer Mats Dahlberg’s former band-mates Treat, they demoed songs for a third album but it was never released.

Those songs have survived and a good number of them have made this album. The band have survived too with the ‘Injection’ line-up of twenty-five years ago re-assembling for ‘Pit Stop’ – Bosse Lindmark (vocals), brother Anders Lindmark (bass), Leif Westfahl (guitar), and Ola Lindstrom (keyboards) alongside Dahlberg. Produced by the wonderful Erik Martensson (Eclipse/W.E.T.), ‘Ready Or Not’ is Classic Rock with melody, brimming with enthusiasm and asking the question “are you ready or not?” to party with Dalton? Hell yeah!

The first single ‘Hey You’ was premiered at the Frontiers Festival in Milan earlier in May and it’s a bouncing Rocker with its 1980s trademark stamped all over it. It’s all big hair and big smiles when it comes to the re-recorded R.A.W. song ‘Don’t Tell Me Lies’; a classic mid-paced Rocker, oozing with synths and melodic guitar ambiance and the first of the three newies. ‘One Voice’ could be a cousin to Bon Jovi’s ‘Blood On Blood’ with its free flowing nature embellished with gorgeous melodies and wonderful harmonies. The second newie ‘Here We Are’ has an intro reminiscent of U2’s ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ and a great sentiment in its lyrics and is easily Dalton’s very own ‘You’re The Voice’ moment with its gloriously uplifting backing vocals on the chorus.

The third newie and Japanese bonus song ‘Beautiful’ is gorgeous, co-written with amongst others Chris Goldsmith (Coldspell), reminiscent of Sheryl Crow’s James Bond song ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’, with lovely keys encapsulating the mood and sincerity of Lindmark’s vocals with a perfect solo and wonderful synth adding to the majestic composition. A real shame it won’t be on the European version!

Rounding out the album is an AC/DC styled party anthem ‘TGIF’ (think about it!). Don your best cowboy boots and high heels, slip on that spandex and sexy dress, tousle your hair and apply some red lippy and let’s shake your thang and wiggle your ass because Dalton are out to party!
