New project featuring ex Bad Company singer Robert Hart and Jim Kirkpatrick from FM.

I'm a sucker for the type of Bluesy, Melodic Hard Rock that the band called Diesel play; always have been, always will be. For those who are unaware, Diesel consists of a bunch of accomplished musicians including Robert Hart (Solo/Bad Company/Manfred Mann's Earth Band) on vocals, Jim Kirkpatrick (FM) on guitars and keyboards, Jimmy Copley (whose played for the likes of Graham Parker, Ian Gillan, MMEB, Paul Young, and Go West) on drums along with Pat Davey from the band Seven on bass. With a collection of such esteemed musicians, you immediately get the feeling that what you're about to listen too will be a very classy set of songs that will entertain from start to finish and let me tell you that is just what you get!

What did surprise me at first was the up-tempo feel and forceful attack that the songs on 'Into The Fire' have (which are a lot heavier than you would expect them to be) because with the personnel involved, I was expecting something very different to how this album actually sounds. This I have to say isn't a problem because the music, though different than expected, is for me a real joy to listen to. Just marvel at the powerful musical/song impetus that can be found on '...Fire' which is at times intoxicating and helps keep you riveted to the spot as the album plays. It opens with 'Lover Under Cover' which is also a stroke of genius by Diesel because this one track helps to set out the band's many musical wares and shows just what they have to offer us. With just this one song, Diesel wet our musical appetites and gets us drooling in anticipation as we wait to hear more superb offerings. These include 'Into The Fire' (a track that sees Kirkpatrick, who is amazing throughout this album, soloing until his fingers surely must have bled), the FM-like 'Starting Over' which has some wonderfully catchy harmony vocals, the awesome mid-paced romp that is 'So What Is Love?' (where Robert Hart shows just how good he really is) and the beautifully written and performed 'Coming Home' where the whole band pour their heart and soul into the music and lyrics of the song until it reaches its emotional denouement. It doesn't end there either but I'll let you discover the rest of the musical delights that fill '...Fire' for yourselves.

I have always thought that Melodic Hard Rock should be played with a passion and love that can be felt in the very bones of an album. In my opinion Diesel have recorded something filled with that sort of passion and love and fans of this wonderful music we call Rock, will (I have no doubt) love what they have done on this album.
