The one downside for me is the editing of the film.

Aerosmith have a reputation for being a great live band, so a new live release from them is always welcome as far as I'm concerned. Their latest album did absolutely nothing for me at all, so when this DVD crossed my path, I was intrigued ā€“ especially when I saw the set-list.

In 2011, Japan suffered a massive earthquake, a tsunami and a meltdown in the Fukushima nuclear plant. In order to aid the Japanese people in their plight, Aerosmith headed over there to pay a collection of shows. This DVD follows them on that tour, offering footage from several performances.

Steven Tyler (or "Mr American Idol" as Joe Perry amusing calls him on stage at one point) is in pretty good voice here ā€“ while not his finest set of performances, it's a lot stronger than some of the ones I've seen. The rest of the band are in top form, but the selling point is the collection of songs. While there are some obvious hits in the form of 'Love In An Elevator' and 'Livin' On The Edge', the rest of the set is made up of old school Aerosmith or deep album cuts. The band wheel out the likes of 'Hangman Jury' and 'Boogie Man', nestling them alongside 70's gems like 'Toys In The Attic', 'Sweet Emotion', 'Draw The Line', 'Mama Kin' and the lesser played 'S.O.S (Too Bad)' and 'No More No More'.

The songs are intercut with footage of the band rehearsing, taking the train, wandering around Japan, giving interviews, and generally just enjoying their time there, but it's the music that's the selling point. If you prefer old Aerosmith, this is right up your street, with nothing in the set from later than 1993. The band even play the first song Tyler and Perry wrote together, 'Movin' Out'.

The one downside for me is the editing of the film. Songs are not always complete ā€“ I was unimpressed when the film went from Tyler talking to the live performance, only to find they'd completely cut out the awesome opening riff to 'Rats In The Cellar' and started straight at the verse. Naturally though, Joey Kramer's drum solo is left intact!

There are bonus tracks of 'Lick And A Promise' and 'One Way Street' added on to give a fine collection of Aerosmith material. There is no difference between Blu-ray and DVD in terms of content. The live footage is really good, I just wish they'd either keep the songs in one part and the tour documentary in another, or spliced it together better without cutting chunks of the music out. After all, when it comes to Aerosmith, they said themselves they let the music do the talking.
