A powerful and catchy album.

There was a big expectation after Hanoi Rocks broke up regarding "what's next?" for Michael Monroe, and his comeback last year saw the live album ' But now 'Sensory Overdrive', the long awaited studio album, is the candy that we sweet-tooths have been salivating for. The recordhas been produced in Los Angeles by the legendary Jack Douglas (who has worked in the past with big names like Cheap Trick, Patti Smith and John Lennon amongst others). Michael has surrounded himself with a great bunch of musicians consisting of his old mate, ex-Hanoi Rocks bassist Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Mad Juana), whom he already worked with outside of Hanoi Rock in his 90's project Demolition 23, Ginger from The Wildhearts and ex-New York Dolls guitarist Steve Conte (Company of Wolves, Willy DeVille) on the guitars completing the combo with drummer Karl Rosqvist (Danzig). No doubt that this album comes along with the quality promise.

Honestly I was expecting something along the lines of the Demolition 23 style and it isn't, so on first hearing I felt a bit disappointed, but the more I listen the more I like it - I don't know where I will go on if I keep doing it! Hey, that's why they don't call themselves D23 again - this is the Michael Monroe Band and we are now in 2011.

There are 11 tracks on the album, which kicks off with 'Trick of the Wrist', and from this electrifying starting point the action is guaranteed throughout, right to the end. '78' is the single and is a vibrating song dedicated to the music scene from back in the year 1978. And if it weren't enough with the fantastic musicians that compose the band, there are also some special guest appearances, such as country singer Lucinda Williams singing the chorus in 'Gone Baby Gone'- oh yeah, its country style! The other big appearance is Motorhead's Lemmy who writes and sings 'Debauchery As A Fine Art', the heaviest track for ending the album with your heart at 100 beats per minute. I was a little surprised that the two unreleased studio tracks from the live album don't appear here, as I thought those were a taster for this new album. We can never have enough of the best Finnish frontman ever … well, not just Finnish – outta this world!

Michael and Ginger have created a powerful and catchy album, and that's a fact. I can't wait to catch them next time around to feel this energy with all of my senses.
