Full of great melodies which make it appealing to a wide variety of Rock genre fans.

I was first introduced to this four-piece from Cambridgeshire via their EP and single, although I did wonder back then whether the full-length goods would come up to scratch when the time came to deliver a debut album. I shouldn't have worried because this release is beautifully crafted with ten cracking tracks and sublime production. Having been around for about four years or so, the band have polished their songs and performance to come up with one of the best self-financed debuts I have heard in a long time.

With lyrics being one of my pet peeves, I am pleased to say this is not only a great album, but it's intelligently written as well. Musically, it's a mixture of emotions covering the various spectrums of love, hate, war, domestic violence and mental illness, but not in a crass or cheesy manner.

Kicking off with the incredibly powerful 'Take It All', we hear a story of a relationship that starts well, turns sour and quickly turns to violence. There's a darkness to this track which made me listen again and again; it's a magnificent way of tackling a very difficult subject. Likewise, 'Good Man Gone' is a tune in memory of a friend who ultimately lost his battle against mental issues and I have to say it's a fitting tribute.

The record has no fillers whatsoever; 'Let You Down', 'Think Of Me', 'Down By The Water' and 'Sinner' all shine through and, to be honest, it's hard to pick any favourites. This is a true Modern Hard Rock album, parts of which are very heavy indeed, but it's full of great melodies which make it appealing to a wide variety of Rock genre fans. I have yet to meet one person who has seen Hollowstar live and not been impressed.

Buy this release and you can join the list. Ironically, I have not seen the group live and that needs to be remedied as soon as possible. The band are touring this year and they are now firmly on my bucket list.
